People are gathering downtown Sofia for the 58th consecutive evening to demand the resignation of Bulgaria’s cabinet and this country’s Prosecutor General. The protest is held under the motto “We are not afraid”. The Toxic Trio who are among the organizers of the protests called on the opposition parties to leave the National Assembly and dissociate themselves from “the autocratic government”.

The President of the Party of European Socialists Sergei Stanishev discussed the situation in Bulgaria with the President of the European Parliament David Sassoli. Sergei Stanishev and David Sassoli underlined that the right to protest must be respected and that Police violence is unacceptable. The Socialists and Democrats Group in the European Parliament expressed solidarity with the people who are protesting in Bulgaria, BNT informs.

Meanwhile, the Sofia District Prosecutor’s Office has announced that a fourty-one-year-old man was detained on accusations that during the protest on September 2 he carried in his rucksack “unidentified number of hand-made explosives that were given to participants in the protest”.
