A stone carved Imperial letter discovered in the beginning of the 20th century was restored in the Ancient town Nicopolis ad Istrum near the village of Nikyup, Veliko Tarnovo district.

Archaeologists found traces of fire on its fragments. The inscription is a transcript of the original letter of Emperor Septimius Severus and his elder son Caracalla to the residents of Nicopolis ad Istrum in which they express gratitude for their financial aid to the tune of 700,000 Denars.

The valuable finding which weighs over two tons is 3.5 meters high and the text carved on the stone plate is quite long.

The message is already mounted on a special pedestal. It is to be translated into Bulgarian and English.
