A surplus to the tune of EUR 450 million has been registered in Bulgaria’s state budget in the first nine months of 2020. A lot of money is to be spent in the last months of 2020 for another consecutive year. The big surplus is due to capital expenditure. Therefore, it does not seem to me that there will be serious amendment to the state budget, Petar Ganev from the Institute for Market Economics commented for BNR.

Petar Ganev predicted that it is unlikely that the European Union will suspend EU funds for Bulgaria in 2021. On the opposite, more money is to be absorbed in this period in response to the coronavirus crisis, the expert contends. However, the budget deficit will be higher due to the measures adopted against the Covid-19 crisis.
