For some days now people in Sofia have been wondering about a transport vehicle they have been seeing – an old tramcar like any other, running along line no. 11, but covered all over with pictures of… human faces.
The “art tramcar” was painted by street artist Aleksi Ivanov with the idea of provoking people’s imagination. The graffiti artist financed the materials for this venture himself.
“I painted 100 faces as wordplay with the word capital (in Bulgarian “sto litsa” means “100 faces”, “stolitsa” means “capital city”.) I really did paint 100 faces on the tramcar – people of different skin colour, musicians, people with disabilities, a dentist, a house painter. All the people who make up the society we live in,” Aleksi says for Dnevnik.
For three years Aleksi has been living in Sofia and working at a store. The tramcar “of 100 faces” is his first major project.
