Mavrud definitely deserves the appreciation it gets from connoisseurs from all over the world, and is part of the popular wine routes targeted mostly at foreigners. Today it is thought to be one of the oldest high-quality local red grape varieties. Mavrud grapes ripen later, and the wine made from them has a deep ruby colour and a full-bodied aroma.
There are around 40 wine cellars in Bulgaria which make Mavrud wines. Around 30 of them welcome tourists in designated wine tasting rooms.
