Fewer Bulgarians plan winter holiday: Survey

Photo: Veneta Nikolova

Coronavirus restrictions hinder early planning of winter tourism. 600,000 adult Bulgarians, or 11.5% of all Bulgarian citizens are preparing to use some type of tourist service in Bulgaria during the forthcoming winter season. Meanwhile, in 2019 their number was four times higher.

The number of people planning a holiday in winter resort abroad is seven times lower as compared to last year and amounts to several dozens of thousands only, a survey of Gallup International and Bulgaria National Board of Tourism shows.

Another 23%, or 1.3 million Bulgarians are planning to visit relatives and friends, or stay in private villas or guest houses. 59.5% are not planning any winter holiday. Bulgarians are planning to spend an average of EUR 650 for their winter holiday, whereas last year they planned to spend EUR 503.
