FM Zaharieva: Bulgaria is ready to continue talks with Skopje on controversial issues

Bulgaria's Foreign Minister meets North Macedonia's special envoy Vlado Bučkovski who is on visit to Sofia

Bulgaria is ready to continue talks with North Macedonia in order to find a lasting solution to the disputed issues, which will allow Skopje to start EU membership talks. This was stated by Bulgaria's Deputy Prime Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva after a conversation with Skopje's Special Envoy for Bulgaria, Vlado Bučkovski, during his first official visit to Bulgaria since his appointment.

Vlado Buckovski has expressed Skopje's readiness to contribute to a common solution, BNR has reported.

Earlier, Vlado Bučkovski discussed the controversial issues between the two countries with Bulgaria's Deputy Prime Minister Krasimir Karakachanov. Bučkovski expressed North Macedonia's view that dialogue should continue and that a friendly tone was the only way to reach an understanding.

Karakachanov expressed satisfaction with the expressed desire, but recalled that the anti-Bulgarian rhetoric continued. He stressed that there are people in North Macedonia who define themselves as Bulgarians and this right cannot be denied. Karakachanov also pointed out that the Bulgarian people would not accept any compromise with the historical facts.
