Chief banker forecasts entry into Eurozone in 2024

On January 1, 2024, Bulgarians will most likely shop using euros, the governor of the Bulgarian National Bank Dimitar Radev predicts, quoted by Bloomberg TV Bulgaria. The country's entry into ERM 2 will accelerate the process of convergence of the Bulgarian economy and that of the Eurozone and reaching incomes close to those in the Central European countries, Radev says. Interest rates in 2021 will remain at the same levels as in 2020.

Against the backdrop of the pandemic crisis, the situation in the banking sector is not worse than that before the crisis. The banking sector had been well prepared, the central bank had taken measures totaling more than 4.5 billion euros, while the banks themselves have been acting wisely and forming reserves to help them meet the risks in 2021, the banker said.
