Bulgaria produces less but more expensive vegetables

Bulgaria produces less but more expensive vegetables, shows analysis of the Economic Research Center at the Agricultural Academy. In 2020, vegetable production in the country decreased by 17% compared to 2019. Tomatoes are among the most impacted crops, as tomato production is likely to decline up to 30% on an annual basis.

Meanwhile, vegetable prices have risen by about 10% on an annual basis. Expert analysis shows that vegetable production is highly dependent on subsidies, BNR reporter Veselina Milanova informed.
