The Bulgarian Parliament will decide whether to build the Belene NPP or use the available equipment to build Unit 7 of the Kozloduy NPP. This was answered by Bulgaria's Minister of Energy Temenuzhka Petkova in Parliament to a parliamentary question about the priorities of Bulgaria in nuclear energy and the future of Belene NPP.

According to Petkova, Bulgaria's energy strategy project reads that this country needs a new nuclear power of 2,000 megawatts. According to an expert report, there is no technical obstacle to using the available equipment for the Belene NPP for the construction of Unit 7 of the Kozloduy NPP. The cost of the Belene NPP since 2006 is about 1.5 billion euros, Petkova said.

A procedure for selection of a strategic investor for the Belene NPP project is currently underway.
