Commission calls on Bulgaria to fully transpose EU rules on combating racism and xenophobia

The European Commission will send a letter of formal notice to Bulgaria as its national law do not fully or accurately transpose EU rules on combating racism and xenophobia. Four other member states- Belgium, Finland, Poland and Sweden- will also receive such letters, BNR’s correspondent in Brussels Angelina Piskova reported.

Bulgaria’s legal framework does not ensure that the racist and xenophobic motivation is taken into account by national courts as an aggravating factor for all crime committed, contends the European Commission. Bulgaria has two months to reply to the points raised by the Commission.
