Despite the huge progress marked in recent decades, full gender equality in Bulgaria is not yet a reality. The pay gap between men and women in the country is 13.5%. Moreover, only 25% of the MPs in Bulgaria’s National Assembly are women. There are 360,000 single mothers in Bulgaria. 72% them and their children live on or below the poverty line, noted the Bulgarian Fund for Women on the eve of the International Women's Day - March 8.

The day will be marked with 20 initiatives across Bulgaria. The initiatives are supported by the Bulgarian Fund for Women, the Embassy of the Netherlands in Sofia and the Embassy of Switzerland in Bulgaria, the Bulgarian National Radio’s reporter Gergana Hrischeva informed.
