The Holy Month of Ramadan begins

More than 650,000 Muslims in Bulgaria are to welcome the Holy Month of Ramadan, which begins on April 13. Fasting, held from dawn to dusk during Ramadan, is one of the main pillars of Islam and a time of self-examination and religious devotion. Ill people, elderly people and those who are travelling are exempt from fasting during the Holy Month.

Mass gatherings in mosques are not likely to take place due to the coronavirus pandemic. Last year the Grand Mufti’s Office in Bulgaria called on the believers to stay at home and perform their prayers there.
