Bulgaria should issue identity documents to a child with two mothers with same-sex marriage. This is the opinion of Juliane Kokott, Advocate General at the Court of Justice of the European Union. The case concerns a marriage between a British and a Bulgarian and their child, legally recognized in Spain, where the couple lives. However, the Bulgarian authorities have refused to write the names of two mothers in the birth certificate of the child.
In this case, the European Court has issued an opinion but cannot force Bulgaria to recognize the marriage or parental rights over the child.
