Photo: archive

Every second child in Bulgaria aged 18 or under, or 47% of all children, has experienced some form of violence, indicates a 2019-2020 survey by UNICEF-Bulgaria conducted among more than 2,000 children and young people aged 13 to 25. According to the survey, 13% of Bulgarian children have experienced all three forms of violence - physical, mental and sexual. One in three children in Bulgaria feels in danger at home, at school or within the community.

Adults who were exposed to violence in the past are more likely to use violence against their children, the study notes.
