Bulgaria's Vice President Iliana Iotova attended the celebration of the 171st anniversary of the Belogradchik uprising against Ottoman rule. In the town of Belogradchik she stated that the Bulgarian state had a great debt to Northwestern Bulgaria and expressed wishes that real care would be taken so that the Northwest would no longer be the most backward region in the country.

"This part of our country is one of the most beautiful with its magnetic nature, but also the richest with its hard-working and patriotic people who want to have opportunities for development," Iliana Iotova said. The vice president attended a memorial service for those killed in the uprising, laid flowers at the graves of the initiators of the uprising and joined the liturgical procession to the Belogradchik fortress.
