Hospitals are being investigated over funds abuse and draining of Health Insurance Fund

The Bulgarian Minister of Health has dismissed the management of Lozenetz Hospital. Stoycho Katsarov reported that there were data on fictitiously treated patients and draining of the Health Insurance Fund, as well as suspicions of a crime with transplants. "Other hospitals will also be inspected. We have good reasons to believe that this is not the only case in which unrealized activities have been reported," Minister Katsarov said.

In the period 2019-2020, a total of 14 transplantation from living donors from Ukraine and Moldova were performed at the health facility. All recipients who are citizens of Israel and people with Arabic names are listed as their relatives. This raises suspicions that the recipients of organs used false identities, which has been referred to the prosecutor's office.
