We have received signals that teachers and school principals are subject to political pressure during election campaigns, Bulgaria’s caretaker Minister of Education and Science Professor Nikolay Denkov said for the BNR. One in three heads of regional departments of education is involved in politics, said caretaker Minister Denkov.

"Higher education is free from political doctrines. There shall be a requirement for depoliticization of the school education system", commented Professor Nikolay Denkov. He described the current school year as "relatively successful". “However, we should not comfort ourselves, because we have not witnessed a significant improvement in students’ performance over the recent years”, said Minister Denkov.
