Archaeologists have discovered the foundations of a wall enclosing an area of 0.1 hectares on Cape Chiroza near Kraimorie residential district in Burgas. During excavations in May and June, archaeologists also found the foundations of a massive tower in the highest part of Cape Chiroza. Professor Dr. Ivan Hristov from the National Museum of History heads the team of archaeologists. The excavations are financed by the Municipality of Burgas.
Hundreds of ceramic fragments of Thracian and imported pottery have been discovered during the excavations. The coins, adornments, amphora seals and ceramics that were found during the excavations date back to the end of the 2nd and the 1st century BC. The building was probably used not only as a tower, but also for residential purposes. Towers similar to the one located on Cape Chiroza were found in different parts of the Mediterranean region. Archaeological studies continue with underwater research in Chengene Skele Bay, announced the Regional Historical Museum in Burgas.
