More than 23,000 people have been waiting to apply for Bulgarian citizenship. The electronic system is reserved until June 2022,  Minister of Justice Yanaki Stoilov said at a press conference. This is the reason for amending Chapter 5 of the Bulgarian Citizenship Act, the minister added.

However, the most urgent task is the good organization of the elections. I hope that despite issues, the Prosecutor's Office and the Ministry of Interior will cooperate effectively in order to sharply reduce the number of bought votes, Stoilov pointed out.

There are 1,200 prisoners who are eligible voters. "The turnout in the detention centers will once again be the highest. On April 4, it was over 90%, without purchased and corporate votes," the minister said.

Regarding the Law on Bulgarian Citizenship, Stoilov reminded that since 2019 there has been an objection from the European Commission against the practice of the so-called citizenship in return for investment, which exists in few countries on the Old Continent. He announced that he and his team had requested information from the Foreign Investment Agency on what and how much these investments were, whether they were real and whether they continued to exist after the acquisition of citizenship.
