Medics from Pirogov hospital protest for second consecutive day

Medics from Pirogov Hospital for Emergency Medicine protested for the second consecutive day against the dismissal of the hospital’s former Director Professor Asen Baltov. Professor Baltov was dismissed after an inspection of this country’s Health Insurance Fund.

The protesters blocked temporarily Tsar Boris III Boulevard and contested the arguments of Bulgaria’s caretaker Minister of Health Stycho Katsarov who contends that he was among the patients with a false diagnosis. Associate Professor Petar Atanasov who heads the internal disease ward at Pirogov hospital said that Minister Katsarov had announced distorted information about his diagnosis. Professor Baltov explained that the clinical pathway for the treatment of Covid-19 patients amounts to EUR 600, but the treatment of medium care patients costs EUR 2,000. However, Pirogov hospital did not charge its patients a single penny, Asen Baltov said further.
