European Commission launches infringement procedure against Bulgaria over digital copyright

Photo: Archive

The European Commission has opened an infringement procedure against Bulgaria and 22 other countries under the Copyright Directive in the common digital market. Our country has not fulfilled its obligation to inform how it has changed its laws in order to bring them in line with European standards.

The deadline for implementation of the directive from 2019 in the local legislation has expired on June 7, BNR's correspondent Angelina Piskova reported from Brussels. The government has two months to give explanations before Brussels moves on to the next stage of infringement proceedings.

The Copyright Directive regulates the remuneration of artists and copyright holders when their works are used online.
