For the sixth consecutive day in Haskovo, Southern Bulgaria, a temperature record was measured. At 2:40 pm the temperature reached 40.3 degrees Celcius in the shade. The record for August 2 until now was 38.5 degrees from 1965. Today a red code alert for dangerously high temperatures has been announced for Haskovo and 9 other districts in the country.

A total of 360 fire alerts in the country were received yesterday and today across the country. The main reason for them is human activity, Stefan Stefanov from the General Directorate for Fire Safety and Protection of the Population, told the BNR.

Today a fire broke out west of Blagoevgrad, southwestern Bulgaria. Dry grasses and bushes have caught fire, Radio Blagoevgrad reported. The fire covers a large area, but there is no danger to the population. Several teams of firefighters are involved in the firefighting.

A large fire also engulfed the pine forest near the village of Rozino near Karlovo. The fire spread quickly, threatening to spread to wider areas of this part of the Balkan Mountains. Currently there is no danger for Rozino and nearby settlements.
