Pig farming in Bulgaria is threatened by bankruptcies

The African swine fever and the Covid pandemic have brought great challenges to Bulgarian pig farming. The fact that the number of swine fever cases has been rising is also very alarming. At the same time, large pig farms have not received the financial support over the previous swine fever wave. Many pig farmers say they are currently working at a loss.

Therefore, representatives of the sector call for on urgent intervention by the state. Otherwise, nearly 25 percent of Bulgarian pig farming would be destroyed, the Association of Pig Farmers in Bulgaria warned.
