Prosecutor General Ivan Geshev has filed a request to the Constitutional Court for declaring provisions of the Rules of Procedure of the National Assembly unconstitutional, the Prosecutor’s Office said.
According to these rules, the prosecutor must have a hearing in the parliament's legal committee every 3 months. According to the prosecution the text contradicts the provisions of the Constitution on the principle of separation of powers and the independence of the judiciary. The chief prosecutor said he intended to challenge the ruling in the Constitutional Court during his hearing last week in the parliamentary legal committee over police violence during last year's anti-government protests.
