GERB party leader Boyko Borissov said he had personally called for the resignation of Sofia City Council chair Elen Gerdzhikov. Yesterday, Gerdzhikov, who held the position for almost 10 years, announced that he was resigning over personal reasons.

Today, at a meeting with GERB activists in Plovdiv, Borissov said Gerdzhikov was "letting municipal councilors pursue a career on GERB's back".

Borissov is also dissatisfied with the fact that the municipal councilors from GERB did not react to the statement of the "Save Sofia" initiative that the capital's public transport was facing bankruptcy due to poor management by mayor Yordanka Fandakova.
