Bulgaria's caretaker cabinet is working to ensure access to electricity in the best possible price range for all consumers. This was announced by Prime Minister Stefan Yanev at a briefing at which the measures planned by the caretaker government in the energy sphere were presented. He said that in the last two months Bulgaria had some of the lowest sustainable prices in the EU, emphasizing that high energy prices were due to international factors.

The financial support scheme developed by the government provides for compensation of BGN 50 (EUR 25.56) per megawatt hour spent due to high electricity prices. This mechanism will be included in the budget for the first 6 months of 2022. It is also planned to operate a clearing house in the interest of consumers and traders of electricity. It will balance their interests and the market will become more flexible.
Stefan Yanev stressed that Bulgaria's energy strategy was outdated. He called for an expert discussion on the future of the Belene NPP, in which specialists would participate, BGNES reported.
For household consumers of electricity, heating and hot water, a change in current prices will not be made before the end of this year, the Chairman of the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission Ivan Ivanov stated.
