Capital and resources have become more concentrated in the hands of fewer and fewer people for the past 20 years, the director of the Institute for Social and Trade Union Research at CITUB, Lyuboslav Kostov, has told BNR. "The well-being of the rich in our country has been growing, but this is detrimental to the well-being of others. This is the key point that needs to be discussed," Kostov said. According to data provided by him, in 2019 the richest 1% of the country's population owned 18% of GDP, while in 2008 they owned 8% of GDP.

According to Kostov, the average annual income for 2020 of 50% of the poorest Bulgarians was 2,959 euros, which is about 255 euros per month. The annual income of 1% of the richest Bulgarians was 163,613 euros, or over 13,293 euros per month.
