Inflation in Bulgaria is gaining momentum and prices continue to rise. The Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria (CITUB) forecasts that annual inflation will exceed 6%. CITUB insists that the 2021 state budget be amended for the second time to compensate price increases. According to the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria, salaries must increase by 12.5% and the minimum monthly salary should become EUR 350 from November 1, because more than 500,000 Bulgarians receive minimum wages.
The President of the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions in Bulgaria Plamen Dimitrov has called on the authorities to expand the scope of Bulgarians who receive energy allowances immediately. 1.66 million Bulgarians, or 24% of the population, live below the poverty line. 1.2 million of them are retired. There is a risk of riots similar to those in 2013, Plamen Dimitrov warned.
