“The European Commission has raised the issue, with particular poignancy, of the liability of the prosecutor general and of public scrutiny of his acts,” caretaker Minister of Justice Ivan Demerdzhiev said for BNT.

The caretaker government has set down measures on the matter in the Recovery and Resilience Plan. Their implementation is connected with the funding set down in the plan. The measures shall provide for the possibility of investigating the prosecutor general, and temporarily removing him from office for the duration of the investigation. No amendments to the constitution are necessary for these measures to be put in place, Minister Demerdzhiev added. He commented that the specialized judicial institutions must exist, though not in the way they are now functioning.
