Bulgaria’s caretaker Minister of Health Stoycho Katsarov met with the Director of the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) Andrea Ammon. Stoycho Katsarov and Andrea Ammon discussed the epidemic situation in Bulgaria, the vaccination rate in this country and the forthcoming return of students to class.

The low vaccination rate in Bulgaria is due to our ethnopsychology, Minister Katsarov pointed out at the meeting. In his view, the political forces have been trying to earn votes during this year’s election campaigns via anti-vaccine rhethoric. He voiced hopes that "the battle for life will prevail after the two-in-one election". In Minister Katsarov’s words, the number of people willing to receive Covid-19 vaccines has risen sharply after the mandating of the Covid-19 Green Certifricate.
