The Day of St. Nicholas of Myra, celebrated by the Orthodox Church today, is also one of the biggest Christian holidays. In Bulgarian folklore the saint has wings giving him powers similar to those of the mythical dragons. According to folk legends, he could be in two different places at the same time. A folk song depicting such events was usually sung on St. Nicholas Day during the festive dinner on December 6. It tells the story of the saint sitting together with Saint Basil and drinking wine, while at the same time St. Nicholas also saves two ships from sinking into the Black Sea.
