Bulgaria to negotiate lower VAT on electricity and gas

Bulgaria will lodge a request for lower value added tax on supplies of electricity and natural gas. This country‘s caretaker cabinet has approved a report by the Minister of Finance to launch consultations with the European Commission's VAT Committee.

An EU directive of 2006 provides that Member States may apply a reduced rate to the supply of natural gas, electricity or district heating after consulting the VAT Committee.
