“Congratulations on your election as Prime Minister of Bulgaria, Kiril Petkov. Let’s start working together for the fast launch of NextGeneratrionEU in Bulgaria to enable a successful digital and green recovery”, the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen wrote on Twitter.

The text that the European Commission’s President expects to see the new Bulgarian Prime Minister at the European Council meeting on December 15 and 16 was removed from the congratulatory address, as Bulgaria will be represented in Brussels by President Rumen Radev.

Bulgaria’s head of state Radev had a video meeting with the European Council President Charles Michel. Rumen Radev noted that the EU should recognize nuclear power as "green", without classifying it as a transitional type of energy. Thus, investments in nuclear capacity will not be hindered, said Rumen Radev.
