Bulgaria’s cabinet has proposed that the 2021 budget be extended until March 31, 2021. On objective grounds, the 2022 state budget will not be adopted before the beginning of the next budget year, the government's press office announced. In order to guarantee social payments, Bulgaria’s government will sumbit a proposal to the National Assembly to extend the state budget, the budget of the National Social Security Institute and the budget of the National Health Insurance Fund with three months.

By law, if at the beginning of the year, the budget is not definitely adopted, a sum equivalent to no more 1/12 of the budget appropriations for the preceding financial year may be spent each month, BNR’s reporter Marta Mladenova informed.
