Football club up for sale over problems in energy industry

PFC Beroe has officially been put up for sale, Energy Minister Alexander Nikolov announced. The current owner of the football club is Maritsa Iztok 2 thermal power plant. The decision was made in accordance with the government’s policy for optimizing the expenses of the state-owned energy companies.

“This is an activity untypical of a thermal power plant, especially in light of the profound energy price crisis,” the Bulgarian Energy Holding says.

Beroe, Stara Zagora football club was founded in 1916. The club won the Bulgarian Supercup in 2013.
