On January 6, Bulgaria celebrates the birth anniversary of Bulgarian national hero Hristo Botev. Born in Kalofer in 1848, he emigrated to Wallachia because of his love of freedom. He worked in the newspaper "Dunavska Zora", moved from town to town, and in 1872 near Bucharest, he temporarily lived with the revolutionary leader Vasil Levski. He edited and published the new paper of the National Liberation Movement, Zname newspaper, and in 1875, together with Stefan Stambolov, he published the iconic poetry collection "Songs and Poems".

In support of the April Uprising in 1876, Botev organized a detachment and became its voivode. He captured the ship "Radetzky" and together with the rebels disembarked on the Bulgarian bank of the Danube. The revolutionary died for the Freedom of Bulgaria on Okolchitsa peak.
