The abnormally high January temperatures made the bee colonies leave their hives, BTA informs. Higher winter temperatures were observed in Southern Bulgaria in recent years.
That is why beekeepers in Smolyan district are not surprised that honeybees have been so active during the winter. Due to winter anomalies, apiarists must provide their colonies with more food.
Recently, beekeepers have been checking their hives more often, to make sure there are enough food supplies that will help the bees survive through the remaining cold period. The risks are higher in the mountain areas, as there is no blossoming vegetation there, except for some snowdrops that can be seen here and there.
Most beekeepers are prepared for the warmer winters and provide their colonies with additional food to see them through the winter.Leading researchers and lecturers from the St. Kliment Ohridski University in Sofia and the Institute of Astronomy and National Astronomical Observatory of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences will be paying a visit to the Museum of Natural History in..
