The European Commission has launched an infringement procedure against Bulgaria on the grounds that the country has failed to connect its commercial register to the Business Registers Interconnection System (BRIS).
This transpired from the words of Justice Minister Nadezhda Yordanova during question time in parliament, the Bulgarian news agency BTA reports. Minister Yordanova added that the connection should have been made in 2017. Bulgaria is the only country member of the EU which is still not connected to the system. A plan of action was drafted in mid-2021. The commercial register has been upgraded and test procedures are currently being carried out. The aim is for the Bulgarian register to be integrated into the registers of the other EU countries by the end of June.
