Bulgarian ethnographic zone opening in Bolgrad, Ukraine

Photo: library

The construction of a Bulgarian ethnographic zone began in January at the Center for Culture and Recreation with the Bolgrad Municipality. (The town of Bolgrad in Ukraine is the unofficial capital of the Bessarabian Bulgarians in Ukraine.)

Locals and visitors will have the chance to immerse themselves in the life and traditions of the Bulgarians in Bessarbia, as well as of the other minorities, living in Ukraine for nearly two centuries. The local people have helped collect a lot of historical items for the exhibition. They brought handmade carpets, rugs, towels blankets and household items, actively used a century ago.

There will be a corner with accessories from today's life of the locals. The new ethnographic zone will also be a venue for conferences and festivals. The news was announced to BTA by Svetlana Dragneva - editor-in-chief of the newspaper "Bulgarians: Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow", based in Odessa.
