US Embassy in Sofia objects to illicit recording with journalist

According to the position of the US Embassy in Sofia sent to the Bulgarian Telegraph Agency, a few weeks ago, the United States Embassy in Sofia received information about a possible threat against two people. The Embassy believes that is had to warn the individuals concerned. It also shared information with the Bulgarian authorities. According to the US Embassy in Sofia, the warning did not mention any specific person or political party and it has no information to suggest a connection with a particular political party. The Embassy heard allegations that one of its conversations was recorded without its consent and objects to such practices.

According to Bulgarian media, the warning concerned investigative journalist Atanas Chobanov and Municipal Councilor Boris Bonev. Chobanov announced in the social networks that he had recorded the conversation.
