Accelerated purchase of armored vehicles for the Bulgarian Army

The Bulgarian Army could soon acquire 150 "Patria" armored combat vehicles after the government approved a memorandum between Bulgaria and Finland on April 21st. The document was proposed 2 years ago by Helsinki, but the procedure was delayed due to the change of different governments in Sofia.

According to the daily newspaper "24 Chasa" the in-house contract will go to the Bulgarian plants "TEREM" without a competition. The approval of the order was requested by Dragomir Zakov, the new Minister of Defense in PM Kiril Petkov's cabinet. Currently, there are no funds for the deal in the budget for 2022, but at the end of June an update of government spending is expected.
