European Union member states should be able to reach an agreement on an import ban for Russian oil under certain conditions, Bulgarian Premier Kiril Petkov said several hours before the start of a summit of EU leaders, Reuters reports.

“I think it will pass with certain derogations”, Kiril Petkov said about plans for an embargo on Russian oil imports.

“Overall it should pass, depending on some individual characteristics and criteria that member states may have”, Bulgaria’s Premier Petkov noted.

"If the EU agrees on a Russian oil embargo, there will certainly be exemptions for Bulgaria", Premier Kiril Petkov said before the start of the extraordinary meeting of the European Council. Bulgaria will request a derogation until December 2024.
