President Rumen Radev awarded David Harris, CEO of the American Jewish Committee, the Badge of Honour of the President of the Republic of Bulgaria. The distinction is for David Harris’ outstanding contribution to the development of friendly ties between the Bulgarian and the Jewish people, to human rights protection, the fight against anti-Semitism and all forms of discrimination.
At the ceremony Rumen Radev stated that during World War 2, Bulgaria had saved almost 50,000 Bulgarian Jews. “The stories and the destinies of the people rescued must not be forgotten because this is a story of bloodless heroism, it is a lesson in humanity and kindness,” the president said and added that it is this heroism that is now helping us stand up to all evil and uphold democratic values.
