Skills, talent and a bit of luck is sometimes enough to make your wildest dreams come true. It was precisely all of the above, plus lack of prejudice with regard to origin, religion or beliefs, that helped Zarya Vrabcheva from Bulgaria start work at a leading design studio in London which works on major projects in show business.

“In my line of work team work with many and different groups of people is essential. That is why I have to adapt quickly and I always endeavor to keep the work process smooth,” Zarya Vrabcheva says in an interview with Radio Bulgaria. “You have to be prepared to accept a different point of view and to take it into consideration.”

She admits that before she started this job she only admired show business from a distance, but that she is now a member of the teams that have worked on some of the most spectacular events on the world cultural and music scene. One such project is the upcoming tour of the legendary band Queen, the creation of a special hall for a series of multimedia shows by ABBA, and the Platinum Jubilee concert in front of Buckingham Palace celebrating the 70th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II's reign

“Last August we were contacted by the BBC which produced the event, and alongside with two or three rival studios, we took part in a contest,” Zarya remembers. “We won and we started work – we had about nine months to prepare for the event. We have not had any direct contact with the royal family. Besides the musicians, there were actors taking part as well, sportspeople, there was an excellent mix of musicals staged in London and around the world. Otherwise the selection of performers was spectacular – Alicia Keys, Elton John, Duran Duran and many more.”

Whatever she may be working on, Zarya never forgets her roots and her home in Bulgaria. And she tells anyone asking her where she comes from all about her country.

ABBA

“I always talk about the best things about our country, and there are so many – the diversity of its nature, which I have shown in photographs, its history and culture. Once, during a rehearsal, I played excerpts from an album by the Mystery of Bulgarian Voices and our entire team were enthralled by the beauty of the music. As I have done folk dancing for many years, I have recordings from concerts, so I have played those to many people as well. I have even demonstrated some of the steps.”

So, it can hardly come as a surprise that Zarya wants to carry out her next creative idea in Bulgaria:

“In everything I have done I have always asked myself how I can apply the experience I have so far accumulated in something that is bigger and important to me. That is why the option of working in Bulgaria has always been in my mind. It is so nice to return here, so see the changes in cultural life. I have an idea for a new kind of show, something I was able to experience recently, but I wouldn’t want to give any details yet,” Zarya Vrabcheva says.
