Burgas municipalities express discontent over increase in water prices

By decision of the Energy and Water Regulatory Commission, the price of water in the coastal city of Burgas has risen by nearly 60% to EUR 2.20 per cubic meter. The increase took effect on August 1 and is due to the investment programme of the local water supply and sewerage company. Burgas Mayor Dimitar Nikolov has appealed to court and requested cancelation of the price increase. Hoteliers in Sunny Beach resort and the Mayor of Pomorie are also seeking ways to oppose the price increase.

The draft business plan of the water and sewerage company was supported by the mayors of all municipalities in Burgas district except for two mayors who were not present. However, no one paid attention to the requested price increase, Mariyan Ivanov from the BNR-Burgas reported.
