Four people were killed and eight were injured in a road accident on the Veliko Tarnovo-Ruse road between the villages of Kutsina and Polikraishte last night, the Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interior in Veliko Tarnovo said.

A bus with Romanian registration, driven by a Turkish driver, crashed into a car parked on the roadside and then into a nearby tree. There were no people in the car and the fatalities and injured were among the 26 passengers on the bus. The wounded passengers were taken to the hospital in Veliko Tarnovo.

Both drivers tested negative for alcohol and drugs. The causes of the crash are being clarified. National Investigation Service officers will lead the investigation.

The initial inspection of the State Road Safety Agency has shown shortcomings in the infrastructure of the crash site and unsecured objects on the roadside.
