All principal construction work on the gas interconnector between Bulgaria and Greece via Komotini has been completed. Since mid-June the pipeline equipment has been filled and tested successfully with compressed natural gas. The gas pipeline, the seven valve stations, the two gas metering stations and the dispatch centre are technically viable, construction supervision has ascertained.
The Bulgarian-Greek company ICGB, which is the investor and future operator of the interconnector issued a statement denying allegations that the pipeline is unfinished. ICGB has submitted, to the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works, a two-stage plan for the completion of the accompanying works.
The interconnector can be made operational in test mode at the end of August, ICGB says.
