On this day 35 years ago (30 August, 1987), Stefka Kostadinova set a world high jump record at the Olympic Stadium in Rome, clearing 209 cms., thus also breaking her own record by 1 cm.  The record set by Kostadinova, then 22, remains unbroken to this day. The 209-cm. record set in Rome is part of Stefka Kostadinova’s remarkable career, an unparalleled high jump achievement in world sporting history.

“Many female athletes have tried to improve the record since then, some were very close, I myself have tried dozens of times… My wish to all people is to find their own way to the top,” Stefka Kostadinova says.
