Bulgaria dropped out of the group of the most developed countries in the world

Bulgaria is now the only country in the EU that does not belong to the group of the most developed countries in the world, according to the Human Development Index (HDI) 2021 presented by the United Nations Development Programme
The main reason for Bulgaria's decline is the uncontrolled mortality rate during the coronavirus pandemic. The country leaves the "Very High Human Development" category and falls four places in the ranking to 68th place, surpassed by Serbia, Montenegro and Georgia. The Human Development Index measures the well-being of 191 countries on three main indicators - life expectancy, population education and gross domestic product.
Since the pandemic began, the HDI has declined globally for two years in a row for the first time since it was introduced 32 years ago.
